Employable

Who we are

Only 4.8% of UK adults with learning disabilities are employed.

This means that over 95% of adults with learning disabilities are being denied the right to aspire to a career and the benefits of working such as having better emotional and physical health, increased independence and a widened social circle.
EmployAble believes that all people with learning disabilities who want to work can work with the appropriate support and should have the right to work and the right to feel included as valued members of society. Our mission is to work with partners to provide the support needed to facilitate this process.

Our Leadership team

EmployAble is a project of the Maurice Hatter Foundation and governed by its Trustees: Piers Barclay, Fausto Fulotti and Richard Hatter.

EmployAble is being led by Dr Beverley Jacobson. Bev is a medical doctor with a Master’s in Business Administration and 14 years of experience as a CEO of learning disability charities Kisharon ( 2008 – 2018) and Norwood (2018- 2022). Bev has four children, the eldest of whom has cerebral palsy, a severe visual impairment and learning disabilities as a result of meningitis contracted at birth. Bev is a passionate advocate for the inclusion of people with learning disabilities and autism and has worked tirelessly for decades to change the way society perceives disability, to raise the aspirations of people with learning disabilities and provide them with equal access to educational, living, leisure and employment opportunities. Bev staunchly supports the right of people with learning disabilities to work and to feel included as valued members of society.
